Sytno Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 13, 2026

Sytno (the “App”, “we”) is a mobile app for calorie and nutrition tracking. We take your data seriously and collect as little of it as possible. This policy explains what data is processed, why, and with whom it is shared.

Summary

• Your food diary and profile are stored locally on your device. We keep no copy of them on the server.
• Photo analysis and social features require an account. On our server we keep a minimal profile - an identifier, a nickname, subscription status.
• Some features send nutrition data to us because you ask for an AI answer: the day review and the nutrition assistant. Exactly what is sent is described below.
• We do not store your food photos on our servers.
• Other users can only see your nickname and two metrics - day streak and number of achievements.
• We have no ads and no third-party trackers.
• You can delete your account right in the app: Profile → “Delete account”.

What data is processed

Stored locally on your device

This data does not leave your device and is accessible only to you:

• Profile: name, sex, age, height, weight, and your calorie/macro/water goals that you provide during setup.
• Food diary: meal entries, foods, portions, weight history.
• Saved foods and favorites.
• Progress: day streak, achievements, statistics.

Some of this data is copied into a shared app container (App Group) so that widgets and the Apple Watch app can display it. That container is also on your device.

Account

An account is required for photo analysis, day review, friends, and subscriptions. You sign in with Sign in with Apple or Google: we receive a stable user identifier from them, plus your email address and name if you chose to share them. If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we only see a relay address such as ...@privaterelay.appleid.com and do not know your real one.

Stored on our server:

• an internal account identifier and the identifier from Apple or Google;
• your email address and name, if they were provided at sign-in;
• the public nickname you choose yourself for the Friends feature;
• subscription status and expiry, remaining free photo analyses;
• your referral code and the code of whoever invited you;
• a Telegram identifier, if you linked Telegram to pay for a subscription;
• a device token for push notifications, if you allowed them;
• your day streak and achievement count - these two progress metrics only, and only to display them on the friends leaderboard.

There is no permanent copy of your food diary, weight, height, age or macro goals on the server: that data lives on your device. Some of it is sent to the server at the moment you yourself start an AI feature - the day review or the assistant - and only to produce an answer. What exactly is sent is described in “Day review” and “Nutrition assistant”.

Friends and leaderboard

Friend requests are sent by nickname, which is why nickname search exists. In search results and on the leaderboard, another user sees only your nickname, day streak, and achievement count. Your diary, weight, photos, email, and name are never visible to other users.

You can remove a friend or decline a request at any time in the Friends section.

Food photos

When you analyze a dish from a photo, the image is sent through our secure relay server to OpenAI for food recognition and calorie/macro estimation. We do not store these images - they are proxied and immediately discarded. Processing on OpenAI’s side is governed by the OpenAI Privacy Policy; requests to the OpenAI API may be temporarily retained on their side for abuse-prevention purposes.

Day review

If you request an AI day review, a summary of that day is sent to our server and on to OpenAI: calories and macros eaten, your goal, water intake, calories burned (if you connected Apple Health), and the names of the dishes you logged that day. The review text is cached on the server so it does not have to be regenerated. No photos are sent.

Nutrition assistant

The assistant is an AI chat that answers questions about your nutrition. So that the answer is about you rather than generic advice, your question is sent to our server and on to OpenAI together with a slice of your diary:

• for the selected day - calories, protein, fat, carbs, fibre, your goals, calories burned (if Apple Health is connected) and the names of your dishes;
• totals (calories and protein) for the previous 7 days;
• your profile: sex, age, height, weight, goal and activity level;
• your recent weight entries (up to 8 values);
• dietary restrictions you set in the Meal Plan section - for example allergies or foods you avoid;
• the latest turns of the conversation itself, so the assistant keeps context.

We do not store your conversations with the assistant: they live on your device only. All that remains on the server are counters - how many questions you asked today and how many free ones you used. Nutrition and health data is used solely to produce the answer and never for advertising or profiling.

Label breakdown

When you scan a label, the text is recognised on your device using Apple Vision. Only the resulting ingredient text is sent to the server - the photo of the label is never transmitted or stored. Unfamiliar ingredients may be sent to OpenAI so the substance can be named. The result is cached on the server keyed by the ingredient text itself, with no link to you: a given product has one ingredient list. If you scan a barcode, that code is sent to Open Food Facts.

In-app survey

If you take the “How do you like Sytno?” survey, your rating, the options you picked, your comment, the app version and language are sent to the server. The answer is stored with your account identifier and forwarded to the developer in Telegram so we can follow up. The survey is optional and can be dismissed.

Food search

When you search by name or barcode, the query is sent to the open Open Food Facts database and/or to OpenAI. These requests contain no personal data - only the search text or product code.

Device identifier

To prevent abuse of photo analysis, our server uses an anonymous device identifier (Apple IDFV). It is not linked to your identity and is not shared with third parties.

Voice input

If you dictate a meal, the recording is processed by Apple’s system speech recognition; part of that recognition may happen on Apple’s servers. We do not store audio - only the resulting text reaches the app. Microphone access is requested separately and used only for this feature.

Push notifications

If you allowed notifications, we store a device token in order to send streak reminders and app news. You can turn them off in iOS settings.

Support

A message sent through the Support section is forwarded, together with your account identifier, to administrators on Telegram and stored on the server so that you can see the conversation history in the app. Please do not include information in support messages that you are not willing to share.

Subscriptions and payments

Subscriptions are purchased through in-app purchase (Apple) or through our Telegram bot. We never see or store your card details - they are handled by Apple or the payment provider. From Apple we receive a purchase confirmation in order to unlock premium.

Apple Health

Apple Health sync is enabled manually by you and works in both directions:

• We write to Health: calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, water, and weight.
• We read from Health: active energy, steps, and weight - to adjust your daily calorie budget and show your activity.

Health data stays on your device. The only case where part of it leaves the device is the calories-burned figure included in a day review request, and only when you ask for that review. We do not use Health data for advertising or marketing and do not share it with third parties. You can turn sync off in the app profile or in the system Health settings.

What we do NOT do

• We do not show ads.
• We do not use third-party analytics SDKs or trackers.
• We do not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing.
• We keep no server-side copy of your food diary and never upload it in the background - nutrition data is sent only when you start an AI feature yourself.
• We do not store your conversations with the assistant.
• We do not show other users anything beyond your nickname and two progress metrics.

Data retention and deletion

On-device data. Deleting the app removes your profile, food diary, and all local progress.

Account. Account data is kept for as long as the account exists.

Account deletion happens in the app: Profile → “Delete account”. Your profile, nickname, friend connections and requests, support history, survey answers, saved day reviews, referral links and notification tokens are deleted immediately and permanently. No confirmation email or waiting period is involved. If you prefer email, write to the address at the bottom of this page from the address linked to your account.

Your food diary stays on the device, because that is where it is stored - deleting the app removes it.

After deletion we retain two things:

• Payment records in anonymised form: the amount, date and payment method remain for accounting purposes but are no longer linked to your identifier.
• Counters of free trials already used (photo analyses and assistant questions), attached to an irreversible hash of your account identifier. This exists only so that deleting and re-registering cannot be used to obtain paid features for free indefinitely. That hash cannot be used to recover your identity or what you ate: it holds nothing but numbers.

Children

The App is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from such users.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date at the top of the page.
